Well the big day is almost here. The tree is festooned, the lights are hung, and the stockings will soon need to be stuffed. Around our place a typical Christmas Eve finds us making cinnamon rolls. Perhaps a Christmas cookie or two as well. We usually do any prep work we can on Christmas dinner to make the big day less hectic.
While prepping and baking, we often need some nourishment. What could be better than a mug of steaming hot chocolate? Well, actually what is better is a mug of “grown-up” hot chocolate!
This recipe is delicious, and will delight the adults in your house while the kids drink their regular hot cocoa.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
Grown-Up Hot Chocolate
3 Tbsp. sugar
3 Tbsp. cocoa powder
Dash of salt
Dash of hot chile powder
2 Tbsp. boiling water
2 cups milk
1/4 tsp. espresso powder
Whisk together sugar, cocoa, salt and chile powder in small saucepan. Add boiling water and whisk until smooth. Add milk and espresso powder and heat over medium until steaming.
Add 2 ounces Kahlua to a mug and ladle in hot chocolate mixture. Top with whipped cream, if desired, and enjoy.
